Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

 

Yusuf Ali:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Abul Ala Maududi:
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Muhsin Khan:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful

Pickthall:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Dr. Ghali:
In The Name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

Abdul Haleem:
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy!

Muhammad Junagarhi:
شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم واﻻ ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
अल्लाह के नाम से जो रहमान रहीम है।

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dengan nama Allah, Yang Maha Pemurah, lagi Maha Mengasihani.

ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ

1.    Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq
Recite in the name of your Lord who created –

 

Yusuf Ali:
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-

Abul Ala Maududi:
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created,

Muhsin Khan:
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),

Pickthall:
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,

Dr. Ghali:
Read: In the Name of your Lord Who created,

Abdul Haleem:
Read! In the name of your Lord who created:

Muhammad Junagarhi:
پڑھ اپنے رب کے نام سے جس نے پیدا کیا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
रसूल) अपने परवरदिगार का नाम लेकर पढ़ो जिसने हर (चीज़ को) पैदा किया

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Bacalah (wahai Muhammad) dengan nama Tuhanmu yang menciptakan (sekalian makhluk),

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ

2.    Khalaqal insaana min ‘alaq
Created man from a clinging substance.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:

Abul Ala Maududi:
created man from a clot of congealed blood.

Muhsin Khan:
Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).

Pickthall:
Createth man from a clot.

Dr. Ghali:
Created man from clots.

Abdul Haleem:
He created manfrom a clinging form.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جس نے انسان کو خون کے لوتھڑے سے پیدا کیا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
उस ने इन्सान को जमे हुए ख़ून से पैदा किया पढ़ो

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Ia menciptakan manusia dari sebuku darah beku;

ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ

3.    Iqra wa rab bukal akram
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous –

 

Yusuf Ali:
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-

Abul Ala Maududi:
Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous,

Muhsin Khan:
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,

Pickthall:
Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,

Dr. Ghali:
Read: And your Lord is The Most Honorable,

Abdul Haleem:
Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One

Muhammad Junagarhi:
تو پڑھتا ره تیرا رب بڑے کرم واﻻ ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
और तुम्हारा परवरदिगार बड़ा क़रीम है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Bacalah, dan Tuhanmu Yang Maha Pemurah, –

ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ

4.    Al lazee ‘allama bil qalam
Who taught by the pen –

 

Yusuf Ali:
He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-

Abul Ala Maududi:
Who taught by the pen,

Muhsin Khan:
Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)].

Pickthall:
Who teacheth by the pen,

Dr. Ghali:
Who taught by the pen.

Abdul Haleem:
who taught by [means of] the pen,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جس نے قلم کے ذریعے (علم) سکھایا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
जिसने क़लम के ज़रिए तालीम दी

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Yang mengajar manusia melalui pena dan tulisan, –

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ

5.    ‘Al lamal insaana ma lam y’alam
Taught man that which he knew not.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Taught man that which he knew not.

Abul Ala Maududi:
taught man what he did not know.

Muhsin Khan:
Has taught man that which he knew not.

Pickthall:
Teacheth man that which he knew not.

Dr. Ghali:
He taught man what he did not know.

Abdul Haleem:
who taught man what he did not know.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جس نے انسان کو وه سکھایا جسے وه نہیں جانتا تھا

Suhel Farooq Khan:
उसीने इन्सान को वह बातें बतायीं जिनको वह कुछ जानता ही था

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Ia mengajarkan manusia apa yang tidak diketahuinya.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ

6.    Kallaa innal insaana layatghaa
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

 

Yusuf Ali:
Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,

Abul Ala Maududi:
Nay, surely man transgresses;

Muhsin Khan:
Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.).

Pickthall:
Nay, but verily man is rebellious

Dr. Ghali:
Not at all! Surely man does indeed (grow) inordinate.

Abdul Haleem:
But man exceeds all bounds

Muhammad Junagarhi:
سچ مچ انسان تو آپے سے باہر ہو جاتا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
सुन रखो बेशक इन्सान जो अपने को ग़नी देखता है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Ingatlah! Sesungguhnya jenis manusia tetap melampaui batas (yang sepatutnya atau yang sewajibnya),

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ

7.    Ar-ra aahus taghnaa
Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

 

Yusuf Ali:
In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

Abul Ala Maududi:
for he believes himself to be self-sufficient.

Muhsin Khan:
Because he considers himself self-sufficient.

Pickthall:
That he thinketh himself independent!

Dr. Ghali:
That he sees himself becoming self-sufficient.

Abdul Haleem:
when he thinks he is self-sufficient:

Muhammad Junagarhi:
اس لئے کہ وه اپنے آپ کو بے پروا (یا تونگر) سمجھتا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
तो सरकश हो जाता है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Dengan sebab ia melihat dirinya sudah cukup apa yang dihajatinya.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ

8.    Innna ilaa rabbikar ruj’aa
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

 

Yusuf Ali:
Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).

Abul Ala Maududi:
Surely to your Lord is your return.

Muhsin Khan:
Surely! Unto your Lord is the return.

Pickthall:
Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.

Dr. Ghali:
Surely to your Lord is the Returning.

Abdul Haleem:
[Prophet], all will return to your Lord.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یقیناً لوٹنا تیرے رب کی طرف ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
बेशक तुम्हारे परवरदिगार की तरफ (सबको) पलटना है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
(Ingatlah) sesungguhnya kepada Tuhanmu lah tempat kembali (untuk menerima balasan).

أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ

9.    Ara-aital lazee yanhaa

Have you seen the one who forbids

 

Yusuf Ali:
Seest thou one who forbids-

Abul Ala Maududi:
Did you see him who forbids

Muhsin Khan:
Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents,

Pickthall:
Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

Dr. Ghali:
Have you seen him who forbids.

Abdul Haleem:
Have you seen the man who forbids

Muhammad Junagarhi:
(
بھلا) اسے بھی تو نے دیکھا جو بندے کو روکتا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
भला तुमने उस शख़्श को भी देखा

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Adakah engkau nampak (baiknya) orang yang melarang (dan menghalang) –

عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

10.       ‘Abdan iza sallaa
A servant when he prays?

 

Yusuf Ali:
A votary when he (turns) to pray?

Abul Ala Maududi:
a servant (of Allah) when he prays?

Muhsin Khan:
A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays?

Pickthall:
A slave when he prayeth?

Dr. Ghali:
A bondman when he prays?

Abdul Haleem:
[Our] servant to pray?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
جبکہ وه بنده نماز ادا کرتا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
जो एक बन्दे को जब वह नमाज़ पढ़ता है तो वह रोकता है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Seorang hamba Allah apabila ia mengerjakan sembahyang?

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

11.       Ara-aita in kana ‘alal hudaa

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

 

Yusuf Ali:
Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-

Abul Ala Maududi:
Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way,

Muhsin Khan:
Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)?

Pickthall:
Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)

Dr. Ghali:
Have you seen in case he is upon guidance

Abdul Haleem:
Have you seen whether he is rightly guided,

Muhammad Junagarhi:
بھلا بتلا تو اگر وه ہدایت پر ہو

Suhel Farooq Khan:
भला देखो तो कि अगर ये राहे रास्त पर हो या परहेज़गारी का हुक्म करे

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Adakah engkau nampak (buruknya) jika ia berada di atas jalan yang betul? –

أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ

12.       Au amara bit taqwaa
Or enjoins righteousness?

 

Yusuf Ali:
Or enjoins Righteousness?

Abul Ala Maududi:
and enjoins piety?

Muhsin Khan:
Or enjoins piety?

Pickthall:
Or enjoineth piety?

Dr. Ghali:
Or he commands (people) to piety?

Abdul Haleem:
or encourages true piety?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یا پرہیز گاری کا حکم دیتا ہو

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
तो रोकना कैसा)

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Atau ia menyuruh orang bertaqwa (jangan melakukan syirik)?

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

13.       Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla
Have you seen if he denies and turns away –

 

Yusuf Ali:
Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

Abul Ala Maududi:
Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)?

Muhsin Khan:
Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away?

Pickthall:
Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah’s guidance) and is froward?

Dr. Ghali:
Have you seen in case he cries lies and turns away?

Abdul Haleem:
Have you seen whether he denies the truth and turns away from it?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
بھلا دیکھو تو اگر یہ جھٹلاتا ہو اور منھ پھیرتا ہو تو

Suhel Farooq Khan:
भला देखो तो कि अगर उसने (सच्चे को) झुठला दिया और (उसने) मुँह फेरा

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Adakah engkau nampak (terlepasnya dari azab) jika ia mendustakan (apa yang disampaikan oleh Nabi Muhammad kepadanya) serta ia berpaling ingkar?

أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

14.       Alam y’alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa
Does he not know that Allah sees?

 

Yusuf Ali:
Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?

Abul Ala Maududi:
Does he not know that Allah sees everything?

Muhsin Khan:
Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)?

Pickthall:
Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?

Dr. Ghali:
Does he not know that Allah sees?

Abdul Haleem:
Does he not realize that God sees all?

Muhammad Junagarhi:
کیا اس نے نہیں جانا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اسے خوب دیکھ رہا ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
तो नतीजा क्या होगा) क्या उसको ये मालूम नहीं कि ख़ुदा यक़ीनन देख रहा है

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Tidakkah ia mengetahui bahawa sesungguhnya Allah melihat (segala amal perbuatannya dan membalasnya)?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

15.       Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa’am bin nasiyah
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock –

 

Yusuf Ali:
Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-

Abul Ala Maududi:
No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock;

Muhsin Khan:
Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock,

Pickthall:
Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock –

Dr. Ghali:
Not at all! Indeed in case he does not refrain, We will indeed trail him by the forelock,

Abdul Haleem:
No! If he does not stop, We shall drag him by his forehead––

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یقیناً اگر یہ باز نہ رہا تو ہم اس کی پیشانی کے بال پکڑ کر گھسیٹیں گے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
देखो अगर वह बाज़ आएगा तो हम परेशानी के पट्टे पकड़ के घसीटेंगे

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Jangan sekali-kali berlaku derhaka! Demi sesungguhnya jika ia tidak berhenti (dari perbuatannya yang buruk itu), nescaya Kami akan menyentap ubun-ubunnya (dan menyeretnya ke dalam neraka), –

نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ

16.       Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiah
A lying, sinning forelock.

 

Yusuf Ali:
A lying, sinful forelock!

Abul Ala Maududi:
by the lying forelock steeped in sin.

Muhsin Khan:
A lying, sinful forelock!

Pickthall:
The lying, sinful forelock –

Dr. Ghali:
A lying, sinful forelock.

Abdul Haleem:
his lying, sinful forehead.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
ایسی پیشانی جو جھوٹی خطا کار ہے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
झूठे ख़तावार की पेशानी के पट्टे

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Ubun-ubun (orang) yang berdusta, yang bersalah.

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ

17.       Fal yad’u naadiyah
Then let him call his associates;

 

Yusuf Ali:
Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

Abul Ala Maududi:
So let him summon his helpmates;

Muhsin Khan:
Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers),

Pickthall:
Then let him call upon his henchmen!

Dr. Ghali:
So let him call upon his assembly!

Abdul Haleem:
Let him summon his comrades;

Muhammad Junagarhi:
یہ اپنی مجلس والوں کو بلالے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
तो वह अपने याराने जलसा को बुलाए हम भी जल्लाद फ़रिश्ते को बुलाएँगे

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Kemudian biarlah ia memanggil kumpulannya (untuk menyelamatkannya),

سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

18.       Sanad ‘uz zabaaniyah
We will call the angels of Hell.

 

Yusuf Ali:
We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

Abul Ala Maududi:
We too shall summon the guards of Hell.

Muhsin Khan:
We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)!

Pickthall:
We will call the guards of hell.

Dr. Ghali:
We will call upon the guards of Hell.

Abdul Haleem:
We shall summon the guards of Hell.

Muhammad Junagarhi:
ہم بھی (دوزخ کے) پیادوں کو بلالیں گے

Suhel Farooq Khan:
(
रसूल) देखो हरगिज़ उनका कहना मानना

Abdullah Muhammad Basmeih:
Kami pula akan memanggil malaikat Zabaniyah (untuk menyeksanya)!

۩ كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب

19.       Kalla; la tuti’hu wasjud waqtarib (make sajda)
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
